In 1959 you could buy a bottle of the most popular cola, Coke, for a nickel. Today, that same bottle would cost about $1.00. From 1885 until 1959, the price of a Coke stayed the same. Since that time, the price has skyrocketed about 2000%. An ounce of silver in 1959 was worth $0.91. So, in 1959 pricing, one could purchase 18 Cokes for one ounce of silver. Today, an ounce of silver is about $14. The same ounce of silver could purchase 14 Cokes (close enough). It seems therefore that the only thing that has changed with time is the value of a dollar. Further evidence that a dollar is just another piece of paper.
