There is a vast distinction between the works of men and the works of God. Search them diligently with minute and precise investigation and you find displayed defects and imperfections of the former, brings out also the beauties of the latter. If the most finely polished needle were honed by the greatest engineer and subjected to an electron microscope, many inequalities, crude pits and roughness would be seen. But if the microscope were brought to bear on the flowers of the field, no such result appears. Instead of their beauty diminishing, new beauties and still more delicate details arise, that have escaped the naked eye; beauties that make us appreciate, in a way which otherwise we could have had little conception of, the full force of the Lord’s saying, “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say unto you, That even Solomon, in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of these.”

When the institutions of men are put to measure even greater defects and blemishes are found. Such institutions as the city, the dollar, or even The United States of America – are but examples. No other nation in the world has ever been celebrated, as the USA, for her situation between two great oceans, her liberties, her wealth and power. But, upon closer inspection, her beauty has become a cracked veneer. Her fine raiments are now the dated and patched rags of a former heiress. Her liberties have been shackled by the desires of greedy little men elected as her caretaker. Worse than traitors in arms are these men who pretend loyalty to her, but actually feast and fatten on her misfortunes while patriotic blood is crimsoning the plains of Iraq and the mountain passes of Afghanistan. Their greed has no time or limit to its capaciousness. Their sole object is to consume from the productive. They pity neither for beautiful nature nor for their jobless countrymen. They are ruthlessly ready without a moment’s hesitation to crush beauty, steal joy, and suck the very lifeblood from her now gaunt neck.

On this Memorial Day we do well to remember the long unbroken line of patriots who have dared to die that freedom might live, and grow, and increase its blessings and honor their memory by exposing these elected officials who have squandered our birthright and sold us into bondage.
