The New York Times published a story today on the highly curtailed authority of once powerful Representative John P. Murtha. FINALLY someone has neutered the old bull!
Murtha gained notoriety for having accused marines of attacking and killing Iraqi civilians. A transcript of a May 17 news conference quotes Murtha as saying, “It’s much worse than reported in Time magazine. There was no firefight. There was no IED that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”

Contrary to Murtha’s rushed judgment, evidence shows there was an IED attack that killed one Marine and wounded two others. Seven other Marines were injured in a subsequent firefight. Despite these outrageous accusations, Murtha departed unscathed.

Now, however, a string of federal criminal investigations of contractors or lobbyists connected to Mr. Murtha, the top Democrat on the defense appropriations subcommittee, are threatening to extinguish his backroom clout.

In the weeks following the news that prosecutors had raided the PMA Group, a lobbying firm founded by a former Murtha associate that became a gateway to his office and his biggest source of campaign money, many rank-and-file Democrats risked his wrath by calling for a House ethics investigation. We’ll see whether this was an irreversible vasectomy or not! Full Story below:
